
Peter M. Williamson
Senior Trial Lawyer
Mr. Williamson obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey with a double major in Political Science and Psychology and his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles.
Mr. Williamson has been a licensed attorney in California since 1981 in both state and federal court. He is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of California, the United States District Court for the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central Districts of California as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals where he has successfully argued.
He has also appeared in trial courts in Florida, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.
Mr. Williamson is a current member of the State Bar of California, American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles, the National Police Accountability Project of the National Lawyer’s Guild, and American Attorneys for Justice for which he has served as Chairman of the TASER® Litigation Group. He has also served as a Judge Pro Tem and Mediator in the Superior Courts of Los Angeles and as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southwestern University and the University of West Los Angeles School of Law where he has taught litigation skills and legal research.
Mr. Williamson’s trial practice emphasizes personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, professional negligence, and civil rights cases. In the early stages of Mr. Williamson’s career, he also defended clients in various criminal cases and has only lost one criminal case in his career. In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Williamson occasionally serves as a Mediator. He received his Mediation Training at Pepperdine University’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution (ranked as the number one dispute resolution training program by U.S. News and World Report for the past ten consecutive years). He has also completed additional Mediation training with the Civic Mediation Program of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Mr. Williamson has over 40 years of trial experience handling a wide variety of cases in both state and federal courts. Mr. Williamson (and his co-counsel, John Burton) were the first attorneys ever to obtain a products liability/wrongful death verdict against TASER, International, Inc., the manufacturer of the TASER® Electronic Control Weapon. As a result of this noteworthy verdict, Mr. Williamson and Mr. Burton were the subject of a cover story in California Lawyer Magazine, the official publication of the State Bar of California (TASERS: Lethal or Not, December 2008). Mr. Williamson also holds the distinction of obtaining the largest verdict against a police agency in Ventura County, California history as well as one of two largest settlements ever reached with the City of Key West, Florida. A number of his cases have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, the New Your Times, the Boston Globe, the Charlotte Observer, the Ventura County Star, the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and Lawyers Weekly. His cases have also been featured on CBS News and 60 Minutes.
Mr. Williamson has written extensively on TASER® related issues. He is the co-author of “Representing Clients Injured by TASER Electronic Control Devices” which appears in the Civil Rights Litigation and Attorney Fees Annual Handbook published by Thompson-West. He has also contributed to the ADVOCATE, the official magazine of the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles (formerly the Los Angeles Trial Lawyer’s Association). Mr. Williamson has been interviewed extensively by various media outlets as an expert on TASER® brand electronic control devices and appears in the 2016 feature length documentary, Killing them Safely.
In 2010, Mr. Williamson was named a Super Lawyer in California, a prestigious honor bestowed on only the top 5% of all lawyers in the state. He is honored to have been named a Super Lawyer every year for the past 12 years including 2021. Lawyers from across the country seek him out for his expertise in handling wrongful death/products liability cases against TASER, International, Inc.
In his spare time, Mr. Williamson is an avid golfer and enjoys sports of all kinds. He also loves to travel with his wife Irina and their Mini-Poodles, Charlie and Sam.
