TAKEDA AND LILLY ORDERED TO PAY $9 BILLION IN PUNITIVE DAMAGES IN CLASS ACTION CASE

In a recent class action case against Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. and the Eli Lilly & Co. the jury ordered the companies to pay a combined total of $9 million in punitive damages. Apparently the two companies released a diabetes medicine called Actos in the U.S. and it was found that there was hidden cancer risks associated with the drug. Actos is the first diabetes medicine of its kind and patients were not aware of the possible cancerous side-effects. According to reports, this $9 billion jury award is the 7th largest case in U.S. history.

FAMILY OF 21 YEAR OLD WHO WAS FATALLY STRUCK WHILE PUSHING DISABLED VEHICLE ON 405

Our firm was retained to represent the family of a young woman in her early 20s who was struck and killed on the northbound 405 freeway. The woman had gotten out of a disabled vehicle along with another passenger and began pushing it over to the far lane. This is when another car came along and collided with the stalled vehicle, killing the young woman.

FATHER OF 4 KILLED IN A HEAD ON CRASH IN LAGUNA BEACH, CA

After two individuals died in a fatal head-on collision in Laguna Beach, Martinian Lawyers was retained to represent the family of one of the deceased, Alberto Salinas.

The accident occurred on Laguna Canyon Road at approximately 6:40 a.m. involving a Honda Accord and a Tesla. Two passengers in the Honda were announced dead at the scene, including a father of four. The Tesla driver was hospitalized with only minor injuries.

From what was found during the investigation, the Tesla was responsible for the crash after veering into the other lane with oncoming traffic. However, the investigation is still ongoing.

LAWSUIT AGAINST BAYER – MANUFACTURER OF MIRENA IUD DEVICES

Bayer, a well-known pharmaceutical manufacturer is now being sued for negative side-effects and injuries from the use of their Mirena IUD device. This device is used by women as a form of birth control because it releases levonorgestrel which helps reduce the chances of egg fertilization and helps prevents any from getting into the uterus. The device itself is implanted into the uterus and it lasts for up to five years. So far, Mirena had been found to be 99% effective.

The Mirena IUD was FDA approved back in 2000 and since then it has been used by over 2 million women throughout the U.S.

Lawsuits are being brought against Bayer in regards to Mirena because of unknown risks associated with the product. Bayer did not issue a proper warning to the IUD users and women who underwent the implanting procedure have had unreasonable side effects.

LAWSUIT AGAINST BOEHRINGER, THE GERMAN MANUFACTURER OF PRADAXA

The manufacturer of Pradaxa®, Boehringer is being sued for the unknown risks and side effects of the drug. Pradaxa has been FDA-approved to be taken as a blood thinner which in turn can help patients reduce their risk of having a stroke, systemic embolism and certain hear rhythm disorders. Pradaxa is commonly used in place of a similar drug, Warfarin or Coumadin. However, Warfarin has an antidote in case the patient experiences a serious bleeding issue, whereas Pradaxa does not.

LAWSUIT AGAINST MERK & CO., MANUFACTURERS OF JANUVIA

Martinian Lawyers has been retained for a lawsuit against Merk, the manufacturer of Januvia. This medication was made to help patients better manage their blood sugar levels, it is especially helpful for adults with type-2 diabetes. Januvia was FDA approved back in October of 2006 and since then it has been prescribed by doctors to over six million patients.

Januvia is also available in a combination pill that contains the drug metformin. Once combined with metformin, the new medication is referred to as Janumet.

Some patients who are taking Januvia and Janumet have been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, which is the inflammation of the pancreas. This condition could be potentially life-threatening, and it is also more common in Diabetic patients. UCLA recently did a study where they found that Januvia was responsible for developing abnormalities in a patient’s pancreas, significantly increasing the risks of Diabetics to suffer from pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

LAWSUIT AGAINST ELI LILLY COMPANY FOR INJURIES FROM BYETTA

Our firm was hired to file a lawsuit against Eli Lilly Company for patients who have sustained injuries from using Byetta. This drug is commonly prescribed to patients with type-2 diabetes and some are now experiencing negative and unforeseen side effects. Byetta was approved by the FDA back in 2005 and since then it has been prescribed to more than one million patients.
