Teacher in Orange County Jailed for Sex with High School Student

In Orange County, a high-school teacher has been sentenced to 16 months in a county jail and 3 years of supervision for his illegal sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Her parents became suspicious when they noticed text messages of a sexual nature on her cell phone. They immediately called the police and then the whole story came out. The student’s name has been withheld as she is a minor, but it is known that she was a student in S.P.’s Spanish class at Orange County High School. The fifty-year-old teacher first started to groom the girl for abuse by spending time with her outside of school. He took her to Disneyland and attended social events with her.

In April of 2010, he began sexting the victim, sending her sexually-explicit texts and photographs. The pair also began meeting in motel rooms and in a riverbed in Orange County in order to engage in sexual acts. Now, two years later, S.P. has pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, four counts of oral copulation with a minor, and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object with a minor. In all, his sentence equaled four years, but he will be able to serve three of those years under mandatory supervision.

All of the charges that S.P. was sentenced with were felony charges. Felonies are more serious than misdemeanors and can result in long-term consequences. As all his charges were sex offenses, he will also have to permanently register as a sex offender.
